Our Congregate Living Health Facilities Help Clients to Live Independently Again

At New Start CLHFs (Congregate Living Health Facilities),  we believe the greatest resource is the human spirit.

That’s why we’ve made it our mission not only to provide the best care and restorative therapy to people with spinal cord and other life-altering injuries and illness but, during that process our mission is to teach and empower our patients in their own recovery.

It’s our vision that every one of our clients should have the opportunity to take control of their future, live in the least restrictive environment possible, and enjoy a full life of the highest quality.

Our Mission

New Start CLHFs is committed to providing subacute and rehabilitative care to patients with medically complex illnesses and injuries, while during the recovery phase, training and assisting each patient with a plan to return home or alternate long-term living plan that restores the patient’s quality of life.

Our Philosophy

We believe the key to a successful transition from acute institutional care back to a happy life at home after a catastrophic event is dependent on an individual’s ability to regain control of their own life. At New Start, we work hard to integrate the family and/or intimate friends into a client’s program. We teach our clients and their significant others what to expect and how to avoid becoming overburdened with daily care needs once living independently.

Our Vision

Our vision at New Start is to provide a program that enables all physically disabled and spinal-cord injured individuals to achieve an independent lifestyle in the most comfortable living environment possible.

WELCOME TO NEW START CLHFs

Bridging the gap from institutional care to living at home independently.

With our innovative Independence Training Program and non-institutional living facilities, New Start provides a home, care, training, and support for severely physically challenged individuals. It’s our goal to help people with catastrophic injuries & illnesses get back to living within their community again.

THE CHALLENGE

According to the National Spinal Cord Injury Statistical Center (NSCISC), 12,000 new cases of spinal injury occur every year, nationwide. Of the total population of people with SCI, 89% of the patients are discharged from hospitals to a private, non-institutional residence (in most cases, their own homes). 4.8% are discharged into nursing homes (approximately 500 annually).

THE NEED

A high percentage of severely disabled patients cannot be discharged to their homes and families because they have a high level of disability. These types of patients present the greatest challenge to caregivers: keeping them in hospitals or long term nursing facilities is not only expensive, but confinement to these long-term care facilities does not offer the best quality of life possible. There is often no program in place to train and educate physically challenged patients in the skills necessary to regain control of their lives and successfully transition back into their own homes to live independently again.

THE SOLUTION

New Start CLHFs is unparalleled in its success and quality of service. The New Start Model is based on the belief that all disabled individuals have the right to live outside of an institution. And if given the opportunity to learn how to achieve that goal successfully, it is more than possible to enjoy a full, productive, and satisfying quality of life.

Our Congregate Living Health Facilities (CLHFs), are homes located in residential communities, which are remodeled to accommodate no more than 6 clients at a time. These homes allow our clients to live in the least restrictive manner possible while receiving the highest quality training and care. This includes a full range of integrated therapy services combined with the best and latest technologies available.

A New Light in Community Based Rehabilitation

Our innovative rehabilitation system is a new way of thinking about the needs of people with disabilities. We believe every single person deserves to live, and not just exist. It’s an attitude, an understanding, and a belief in the human spirit and resourcefulness of disabled individuals. It’s also a belief that every individual is perfectly capable of self-determination, fulfillment, and productivity in their community when given the necessary physical assistance.

Our rehabilitation system provides a cost-effective transitional program. The goal for each client is to live independently within the community, while having the physical support to maintain their health and the knowledge to succeed and thrive in life.

Independence Training Program

The New Start Independence Training Program provides a complete system of healthcare for the alert but otherwise complex catastrophically disabled individual. From the onset of injury or illness, New Start CLHFs begins planning care for the future with the goal of returning clients to their own home with or without family support.
